At the beginning of 2023, PeopleCert announced a change in its Global Best Practice certification. Certificates will be issued temporarily, which means the need to renew the validity of the document. There are several ways to extend the validity of certificates. The process of introducing new rules is gradual.
PeopleCert has implemented changes to the Global Best Practice certification effective January 1, 2023:
- Certificates must be renew in 3 years.
- Certificates obtained after January 1, 2020 are valid for 3 years (despite the information on the certificate itself about its indefiniteness). To keep the certification valid, the certification must be renewed.
- Certificates earned after 2023 will have a "Renew by..." renewal date.
- The main source for verifying the validity of candidates' certification is the Successful Candidates Register, available here: https://www.axelos.com/successful-candidates-register/.
- A candidate who does not recertify will NOT be removed from the SCR (Successful Candidates Register). It will still be on the register, but with a note that its certification does not meet the current requirements.
Important information:
A 6 months transition period is planned for candidates whose certification is about to expire. What does this mean in practice?
- Certifications obtained before 06/30/2020: Candidates need to renew their certification until 01/07/2023.
- Certifications obtained after 06/30/2020: candidates have 3 years to renew their certifications from the original certification date.
Examples of certificate validity:
1) You obtained the ITIL4F certificate in February 2020, so according to the new guidelines it is valid until June 30, 2023.
2) You obtained the ITIL4F certificate in 2021, so according to the new guidelines it is valid until 2024.
3) You have obtained the ITIL4F certificate in 2020, so according to the new guidelines it is valid until 2023. However, you have also obtained an advanced certificate, e.g. ITIL4CDS in 2021, so your certification is valid until 2024 (ITIL4F validity is automatically extended).
How to extend the validity of the certification:
From January 15, 2023:
- Retake the exam (no need to retake the training).
- Obtaining a certificate in higher modules (training required).
From March 2023:
- Retake the exam (no need to retake the training).
- Obtaining a certificate in higher modules (training required).

Paper exams:
At the moment, the only available form of exams are online exams by purchasing vouchers that are valid for 1 year. Thanks to this, you can make an appointment for the exam at any time and place.
